The importance of gender lens in government operations was recently introduced to 80 university presidents/school heads who attended the Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) conducted by DOST Region 02 on May 12, 2021 via Zoom.

The first of its kind activity was organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 02. It was strongly supported by Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST 02 Regional Director and Chairperson of the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) in Cagayan Valley. 

Dr. Julieta M. Paras, CHED 02 Regional Director shared the challenge and success of grouping the university executives for 3.5 hours to learn the important concepts of Gender and Development (GAD) and how these affect the operations of their respective schools.

“I have another webinar on-going.  But I left the other one to listen and actively participate in the GAD webinar conducted by DOST 02”, says Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr.  President of Quirino State University.

Meanwhile, most of the executives said it was their first time to attend a very engaging, informative and technology infused presentation that made their learning of Gender and Development (GAD) interesting.

GAD concepts on sex and gender differentiation, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) , Female and Male sex and gender roles, division of labor, gender role socialization, gender biases and stereotyping and women economic empowerment, gender equality, gender equity , including gender issues  were among the topics discussed.

The presidents/school heads gave their commitments to issue policies on how to better implement GAD in their respective workplaces through the IT-based strategies used by the resource speaker.

The training was conducted by Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog, DOST 02 ARD for Technical Operations Services, a recognized member of the DOST-Wide Speakers’s Bureau; Vice-Chairperson of the DOST 02 GAD Focal Point System (GFPS), Focal Person of the DOST-PCW Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) project funded by the Canadian government and Focal Person of RGADC-2. The DOST GAD Speakers’ Bureau is a project of the DOST-Wide System with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to fast tract gender mainstreaming in the DOST System and other agencies needing assistance on GAD.
